The 2018 fire season is upon us. So here are all the dates you must take note of – to make sure you’re prepared, and to adhere to the municipality’s fire season requirements:
In the Overberg District Municipal area (excluding the Overstrand):
Until 30 November: Controlled burns are allowed. You must have a valid permit and have prior permission from the Control Room before starting the fire. The number to phone is: 028 425 1690.
Between 30 November and 15 December: You can still complete stubble land burns and burn your rubbish dump, with a valid permit. Again, you must have permission from the Control Room on the morning of the burn.
Between 15 December and 5 January: There’s a COMPLETE ban on all burns. If the Fire & Rescue Services team sees any signs of smoke during this time, they’ll send the maximum response, and as the landowner, you’ll be responsible for the cost.
After 5 January: You’re permitted to burn your stubble lands and your rubbish dump (with the necessary permission).
Message from Overstrand Municipality Fire & Rescue Services – In the Overstrand area:
Permitted controlled burns/prescribed burns are allowed until 16 November 2018 with prior permission from the Control Room on the morning of the burn. The number to phone is: 028 312 2400.
From the 17th of November 2018 till the end of Fire Season (May 2018): There’s a COMPLETE ban on all burns. If we see any signs of smoke during this time, we’ll send the maximum response, and as the landowner, you will be responsible for the cost. Agricultural and ecological burns will only be allowed with special permission from the Overstrand Fire & Rescue office.
