Get involved: Here’s how you can help
It’s all hands on deck during a fire. Including YOURS!
During the Fire Season in the Overberg, we often have multiple fires burning across the district.
Resources are stretched.
Fire-fighters are tired.
Help is often needed.
That’s where our Overberg residents and visitors play a vital role. You can get involved by providing goods to energise our fire-fighters.
BUT: We are quite specific about those goods that are helpful.
Here’s a list of non-perishable items you can drop off – that help sustain our
fire-fighters working hard to protect our homes and nature.
Instant coffee (we’ll make the coffee at the station)
Boxes of unopened long-life milk
Rusks
Flasks with boiling water
Unopened bottled water
Unopened packets of biltong
Energy bars and trail mix
Tinned foods
Cans of cooldrink like Coke
Packets of nuts (mark it, for those firefighters with nut allergies)
Plasters
Sunblock
Eye-drops
Other medical supplies
Please rather don’t bring:
– Perishable goods like sandwiches
– Any opened tins or water bottles
Our drop-off points are the Fire Stations in each town:
You can also get involved by donating
to our fire-fighters.
All monies raised go to fire-fighters, to help make the fire lines more bearable. The funds are used to:
– Buy cellphone airtime to let families know they’re safe
– Buy foodstuffs like ice to keep drinks cold
– Buy a hearty, restaurant take-away meal after a hard day’s work and other essentials.
