For Richard Middelmann, there’s a certain satisfaction he feels when a wildfire is finally extinguished. That may be because he learned at an early age of the dangers of fire – and its impact on livelihoods.
Today, Richard has employed that knowledge and passion for fire management into his day-to-day – serving as the Fire Management Unit leader of the Lower Botriver area in the Overberg.
And because he always responds above the call of duty when his area, or neighbouring areas are affected by a wildfire, Richard is the Greater Overberg FPA’s next Unsung Hero.
